PACE Setters

PACE Setters, the timber and light engineering division of The Mai-Wel Group, employs a group of experienced and capable workers to manufacture export quality pallets and crates and a range of metal fabrication products.

The business is accredited under the Australian Wood Packaging and Certification Scheme (ISPM 15) to produce export crates and pallets according to customer specifications, size, weight and time frame for the domestic and export markets.

PACE Setters specialises in being a major supplier of export packaging to Hunter businesses’, and is one of only a handful of manufacturers in this region accredited by AQIS to manufacture and supply heat-treated, export quality crates and pallets and the added bonus... you are contributing to long term employment opportunities for people with a disability in the Hunter region.

With over 40 years experience making pallets and crates for local industry, PACE Setters is a leader in the heavy packaging field.

We are a one-stop-shop for heavy packaging needs, supplying standard and custom-made products to heavy industry, mining engineering firms, electrical engineering firms, particle board manufacturers, plastics manufacturers, food manufacturers and general businesses.

We provide a unique service to industry in the Hunter because of our ability to make products ranging from standard pallets, to instrument cases, right through to complex, customized crates built around large pieces of machinery. We are also able to supply extra heavy duty, steel-reinforced crates and pallets. PACE Setters has built such unique products as:

Crates to hold up to 11 ½ tonnes
Crates up to 14 metres long
Crates built in-situ around large pieces of machinery on the customer’s premises
Crates fitted with internal cradles to support large shafts, tanks and odd-shaped pieces of machinery
Display crates that fold open on 3 sides, designed to show off equipment at a mining expo
Heavily padded cases to hold geological instruments for shipping oversees
High-sided pallets to hold large steel balls

All of our pallets and crates conform to Australian Standards and are of superior quality to those found elsewhere, being made of dressed (planed) timber, and fully lined for export if required.

Sheet Metal Fabrication

At PACE Setters, we specialise in repetitive sheet metal fabrication such as metal brackets and washers.

Our Light Engineering section manufactures pressed building components used in multi-storey buildings all over Australia. We also produce heavy duty washers used on heavy pallets for export, plus steel reinforcing for heavy crates and pallets.

We are able to do repetition work involving cutting, folding and punching sheet metal blanks and components.
Large volumes are no problem — our production runs of pressed sheet products are commonly 50,000 to 100,000 units per year of individual product lines with up to 4 bends each.
Our guillotines can cut up to 4mm x 2400mm mild steel.
Our presses can bend mild steel sheet up to 3000mm long, depending upon the thickness of the material.
Our punch can handle mild steel up to 12mm thick, depending upon the diameter of the hole to be punched.
