Enrolment
Thinking of enrolling in a Mai-Wel Training Services Course? Well, you've made a great choice!
Prior to enrolling you may wish to review our Student Handbook, which provides detailed information about your rights and responsibilities as a student of Mai-Wel Training Services. We will ensure you have access to all relevant information as you embark on your learning experience so you can make informed decisions and know how to seek advice when needed.
Once a student has made contact to apply to Mai-Wel Training Services, they are sent:
- an application form
- a brochure about the course they are applying for
- Student Handbook
- the Recognition of Prior Learning Form
- the Training Calendar
This process provides information regarding expectations as well as inclusivity and the supports available. This support will be further enhanced at the first face to face training session through an identification of the diversity of learning styles in each group.

Recognition of Prior Learning
Mai-Wel appreciates that many people have had experience and acquired considerable skills and competencies through work in the disability sector, life skills or industry training programs. This can be formally recognised for potential exemptions from course modules and can mean a considerable reduction in the class work required.
Any person who feels they have already acquired the skills and knowledge of any module can apply for recognition of prior learning (RPL).
To be awarded RPL, each applicant must be able to produce evidence that the knowledge and skills they have gained meet the criteria of the competency being assessed. No restrictions are placed on the amount of credit that is allowable towards a qualification.
An RPL Assessment Form is completed by the applicant to begin the process. If necessary an interview will be arranged at a mutually convenient time.
Applicants will be notified of assessment results and allowed opportunity for appeal.
Appeals
Clients and staff have the right to appeal any assessment decision made by Mai-Wel within 7 days of receipt of the assessment decision. The Assessment Appeal Application Form (AA8.12) must be completed and given to the Course Trainer or Training Manager.
Grievance Procedure
The Mai-Wel Training Services encourage clients, staff or any stakeholders with a complaint or grievance to have the complaint resolved quickly and fairly through appropriate avenues. All complaints will be heard and handled in a confidential and sensitive manner. Complainants may speak on their own behalf or with the support of an advocate. A ‘step’ procedure for working through complaints will be encouraged, with instructions for people to talk to the person with whom they have a problem with in the first instance, then secondly if no resolution has occurred to talk to their Course Facilitator. The third step would involve speaking to the Training Manager. If resolution is not obtained here the CEO would then be involved, and then the Board of Directors. A booklet is available which has outside Complaints Conciliation Agencies who could also assist should this become necessary.
Disciplinary procedures
The Mai-Wel Group Training Services provide training and assessment for adults. A Students Code of Conduct clearly states the expectation of responsible, respectful adult behaviour at all times in the training environment. Breaches of the code may require counselling and can lead to a client’s termination from the course.![]()
