Celebrity Comedy Debate 2017
Fame trumps brains and raises $25k for Mai-Wel
Mai-Wel Group’s 13th Annual Celebrity Comedy Debate, proudly
presented by DFK Crosbie, was held on Saturday 12th August. More
than 300 guests filled Maitland Town Hall for this much anticipated event,
witnessing two teams battle out the topic ‘Fame
trumps Brains – is popularity more important than intelligence’?
After gripping arguments were presented by both teams led by well-known comedians Peter Rowsthorn and Andy Saunders, the audience decided that fame DOES trump brains.
It was a night of belly laughs for the people of Maitland and the Hunter. Highlights of the evening included the appearance of two Kim Kardashians and the one and only President Donald Trump (aka affirmative team member and veteran debater Matt Tranter) as well as the fierce rebuttals presented by both celebrity comedians after intermission.
It was an intense argument but there could only be one winner – and the audience decides.
The evening raised more than $25,000 which will be allocated to Mai-Wel’s newest training space, ‘The Lab’. ‘The Lab’ will be an accessible space where jobseekers can work on skill development and computer literacy to help them get a job.
“The funds raised will fit-out Mai-Wel’s newest training space, assisting jobseekers with a disability or those who experience disadvantage to develop the necessary skills to get a job in their chosen field”, said Pennie.
“The 13th Annual Celebrity Comedy Debate was another fabulous and quality night of entertainment and fun. The generosity of our event sponsors and partners, in addition to the support of the community is overwhelming. A huge thank you to all involved”.
Since its inception, The Mai-Wel Celebrity Comedy Debate has become a hot ticket item on the Hunter’s social calendar and is one of three major fundraising events held annually by The Mai-Wel Group.
