Lance wins runner up in hospitality at Cessnock's 2016 Customer Service Awards

After working in Mai-Wel’s document destruction business, The Enterprise Centre, since 2001, Lance Gillies made the brave decision to try something new. He was eager to meet new people and learn new skills, so when an exciting opportunity arose to work  at popular Cessnock cafè, Grinders Espresso Bar & Flowers, he approached Mai-Wel LabourForce Solutions (MWLFS) for support in making the transition.

Over the past twelve months of employment at the cafè, Lance has worked closely with his MWLFS Support Worker to set and accomplish goals. He has strived to learn new skills, to build positive relationships with his co-workers and customers and to try his best “to make the cafè look good”.

Lance’s hard work has not gone unnoticed. 

At the Cessnock Customer Service Awards held on the 2nd of September, Lance was the proud recipient of the Runner Up Award in the category of hospitality. With over 700 nominations made by members of the Cessnock community for people they thought deserved recognition for outstanding customer service, this was an incredible achievement for Lance.

Lance’s MWLFS Support Worker, Elki Johnson, was thrilled to be one of the 250 guests in attendance at the gala dinner to see Lance accept his award.

“It has been such an enjoyable experience working with Lance over the past 12 months,” said Elki. “Lance is passionate and motivated to learn and develop new skills. His enthusiasm and positive attitude makes the workday exciting for me, his co-workers and his customers.  He loves his job and takes pride in his work and I think this award is a wonderful acknowledgement of the great job he is doing and reassurance for Lance that he made the right decision to pursue a new career in this area!”
