Gerald gears up for a dusty ride
Continuing on from this adventure, he will attempt to ride the same bike over eight Australian deserts, covering 11,500km through the Australian outback in May this year.Gerald was inspired to take on a new challenge and raise some funds for Mai-Wel along the way.
“Riding through Australia’s eight deserts will be a challenge on a bike of this size. On this occasion we will encounter many thousands of kilometres on dirt roads, including the Simpson Desert French Line and the Canning Stock Route, with limited availability of fuel and accommodation, making it a more challenging ride”, said Gerald.
“My goal will be to complete the 11,500kms in a month”.
Since his last ride, Gerald has made a few modifications to his trusty Honda.
“I’ve added trail bike tyres to better tackle uneven terrain and a driving light to the bike. I will have a support car and another vehicle joining me along the way”.
Gerald will embark on his Australian desert journey from Mai-Wel Head Office on Monday 1st May, 2017. Inspired by his son Stephen who has Autism, Gerald will be riding in support of The Mai-Wel Group, who provide employment for Stephen and choice and opportunity to more than 1,400 people with a disability across the Hunter Valley region.
