Matthew’s ‘picture perfect’ dream
Last year, this included taking photos of the food he prepared in his cooking programs, capturing colourful close-ups of flowers during his participation in community gardening and snapping vibrant beachscapes or decaying buildings while out and about on excursions.
This year, Matthew has stepped it up in the pursuit of his dream to one day exhibit and sell his art. Under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), Matthew was deemed eligible for weekly 1:1 supported skills development sessions. He chose to use these sessions as an opportunity to work with staff at The Hub on improving his photographic skills and building his portfolio.
Sessions cover topics such as technical theory, goal setting, planning and budgeting as well as providing practical experience through photography shoots. In addition to the sessions, Matthew has also enrolled in an online introductory photography course run by RMIT University.
So far he has successfully completed one module of study and has passed his first assessment with an impressive score of 80%! Matthew is committed to realising his dream with plans for 2016 set to include completing his course, learning more about cameras, entering competitions, visiting exhibitions, talking to professional photographers and of course capturing more amazing images!
