Plastering a solid career!
When Shaun James commenced with Mai-Wel LabourForce Solutions(MWLFS) in August, 2017, he had a limited employment history but was committed to finding himself a job.
With support, interview and job coaching from a MWLFS mentor, Shaun gained the confidence to apply for jobs independently.
MWLFS located a job vacancy suitable to his interests and skills; a labouring role with Jarina Plastering. Confidently, Shaun interviewed for the role and joined the team after a two-day work trial.
Just two weeks into his new role, Jarrett from Jarina Plastering was so impressed by his new labourer’s enthusiasm and commitment, he offered him a first year plastering apprenticeship.
Shaun has now officially commenced his apprenticeship and happily works across the Hunter and travels to Sydney.
"I enjoy travelling and working in different locations, having such a supportive employer and learning new skills,” Shaun says.
“I feel overwhelmed that I was offered the role. I still cannot believe it!”
Moving forward, the MWLFS Post Placement Support team will work with Shaun and Jarrett as they settle into the apprenticeship.
MWLFS supports youth aged 15 to 21 who have left school and looking for work or wanting to explore training options.
