Life FUNdamentals harvest skills and vegies

20-Jun-2019

Life FUNdamentals Tuesday group have been learning to grow, nurture and harvest some amazing vegetables at Purple Pear Farm.

The group began in mid 2018 and have learnt a lot about seedling planting, weeding, soil preparation, mulching, composting, watering, pest control and harvesting. Since Autumn 2019, there are now two groups tending to the garden during the week.

Participants engage with other gardeners tending to their own gardens, Horticulture students, groups who visit the farm during community events and they are well known at local hardware businesses.

The participants love working on their garden project, being outside in the fresh air and generally spending time at the amazing farm. Taste testing their produce is a bonus!

The group has purchased a green house for The Hub and now grow plants from seeds to replant when the seedlings are mature enough to be replanted at the farm.

Their goals are to install a drip irrigation system, expand the garden and to provide a constant source of various vegetables for Hub cooking groups.
