Celebrity Comedy Debate returns for annual night of laughs
Is popularity more important than intelligence?
Join in on the argument on Saturday 12th August, 2017 at Maitland Town Hall for Mai-Wel’s 13th Annual Celebrity Comedy Debate, proudly presented by DFK Crosbie.
Teams will battle it out in a hilariously heated debate to determine whether ‘Fame trumps brains – is popularity more important than intelligence?’.
Leading the affirmative team and arguing that ‘Fame Trumps Brains’ is one of Australia’s most experienced stand-up comics, Peter Rowsthorn. Best known for his role as ‘Brett’ on ABC TV’s ‘Kath and Kim’, Peter has also been a series regular on Channel Ten’s ‘Thank God You’re Here’ and has been the host of ‘Can We Help?’ on ABC TV for past years. Joining Peter on the affirmative team is local solicitor and seasoned Mai-Wel Debater, Matt Tranter, and Cessnock Councillor Melanie Dagg.
Captain of the opposition, arguing ‘Fame DOES NOT Trump Brains’ is national comedian, MC and all-round entertainer, Andy Saunders. Andy has been telling jokes in front of audiences ever since he can remember, including Melbourne International Comedy Festival – Deadly Funny; Adelaide Fringe Festival – Aboriginal Comedy All Stars, ABC Comedy Up Late TV and Up Early TV. Backing up Andy will be local comedian Soame Chopra, as well as successful local business woman, Gillian Summers.
Facilitating the evening and attempting to keep our Debaters in line is local business owner, Craig McGregor, from Hunter Recruitment Group.
Maureen Jack, General Manager of DFK Crosbie is pleased to return as naming rights sponsor for the third consecutive year and looking forward to a night of laughs.
“At DFK Crosbie we have a mantra of delivering peace of mind in everything we do and as such we support Mai-Wel’s Celebrity Comedy Debate so we can in some way assist in giving peace of mind to our local community,” Maureen said.
“The Celebrity Comedy Debate not only supports the great work Mai-Wel do but it is also a quality night out with plenty of laughs guaranteed”.
