Gerald gears up for the highs and lows of Australia
When Gerald Frogely hits the road on 1st May, he’ll be kicking off his third Ride Around Australia journey on his Honda CBR125 motorcycle, this time cruising 12,500km to Australia’s highest, lowest, most Northern and Southern points in a bid to raise funds for The Mai-Wel Group.
Gerald’s goal for the ride is to visit Mt Kosciusko, South Cape, Lake Eyre and Cape York in 30 days. If he’s successful, he will earn his fourth Ride Around Australia entry in the Australian Book of Records.
The ride won’t be easy but luckily Gerald has the experience of past Ride Around Australia trips to prepare for this one.
“The biggest challenge will be riding the motorcycle over thousands of kilometres over varying rough and unpredictable roads through some extreme weather conditions day after day,” said Gerald.
“From previous experience May seems to be a happy month for weather in Australia. We are going south first before it gets too cold and the snowy weather starts. By the time we get up north the wet season should be over but it will be very hot and we will have to contend with river crossings.
Gerald kicked off the Ride Around Australia fundraising tradition in 2015 to thank Mai-Wel for supporting his son Stephen who has autism.
“Ride Around Australia is my way of thanking the organisation,” said Gerald.
“Mai-Wel have been an absolute godsend to Kerri (my wife) and myself.
“For the organisation to provide Stephen with meaningful employment and support for the past 15 years has been a blessing to us. It has taken a lot of pressure off us knowing Stephen has a regular life within the realms of his ability.”
Incredibly, Gerald’s 2015 and 2017 Ride Around Australia trips raised an incredible $15,483.40 for Mai-Wel.
