The Mai-Wel Group Celebrates 50 Years of Service

50 years of operation is a significant achievement for any organisation and from May 2010 to May 2011 The Mai-Wel Group will celebrate 50 years of service delivery to the Hunter community.

Mai-Wel was born from the vision of a few families in the 1960’s who wanted to provide their children with a disability an outlet for education, opportunity and purposeful employment. 50 years on, The Mai-Wel Group is a thriving, client focused, not for profit company which provides a diverse range of services across the Hunter. Not only is Mai-Wel one of the larger Disability Service Providers in the Lower Hunter Region, but the company is now a major employer within the Hunter with more than 290 full/part time staff employed to provide services and support to more than 800 people with a disability.

This success can be attributed to a number of factors which include: the vision of that original group of families, the expertise of the Management and staff and an ongoing commitment by all to improve opportunities for people with a disability.

The expansion of service delivery over the past few years is a result of an excellent Strategic Plan and the selection of Directors, Management and staff with the skills required to meet the demands on infrastructure, maintenance, capitol works and recruitment necessary to match then growth of programs, services and multiple client groups.

Underpinning each of these challenges is a commitment to outcomes for the individual, quality customer service and the ongoing support of the local business community.

“The loyalty and support of many local people over the 50 years has been nothing short of amazing and our celebrations throughout 2010/2011 will give us the opportunity to formerly recognise the significant involvement of those individuals and businesses over so many years” The Mai-Wel Group CEO, Pennie Kearney said.
