Moving On Program

The Moving on Program (MOP) is an extension of the Community Participation Program of Mai-Wel.  Funding is provided byt the NSW Department of Disability, Ageing & Home Care.  New applicants are assessed for service eligibility by DADHC staff during their final year of schooling.  Once assessed as an eligible service user, users are able to visit and select a service provider from those in their local area.

The MOP service users have achieved significant success on their goals related to Independent Living Skills, community access and community participation.  The Moving On Program provides the opportunity for service users to build on their previous successes through both maintenance and extension activities.

Currently located in the CBD of Maitland, MOP participants are encouraged to apply the skills developed through structured programs, in community settings.  The majority of participants' travel independently to and from the site and are supported to access and use community facilities while being support based on their individual needs.

Program activities promote the participation of service users in meaningful leisure, recreational, social and cultural activities.  A combination of individual and group activities address participants' goals in areas of life skills, ongoing learning, vocational direction and expanding social or support networks while being independent, active and valued members of the community.
