Destiny - The Musical, is a 2 year arts project funded by Accessible Arts NSW Delineate Arts Grant 2016/2017. In collaboration with SB2 Productions, Creative Arts at Mai-Wel will provide leadership opportunities and mentoring for artists with disability to create a community inclusive original musical theatre production.

A group of artists with disability make up the ‘Creative Committee’.

This committee works with the support of Mai-Wel Creative Arts to stage an original musical theatre production ‘DESTINY – The Musical’ by SB2 Productions at Cessnock Performing Arts Centre on Wednesday 6th December 2017. This group of artists are mentored in aspects of the following; stage direction, set and costume design, lighting and sound and producing a show. This occurs in tutored workshops from community or professional artists in their field.

ABOUT 'DESTINY - THE MUSICAL'

Musical style: Based in a variety of genres from ragtime and Motown to rock and ballads. This musical has something for everyone.

Synopsis: A country girl dreams of finding fame and heads to the big city to seek her ‘destiny’, but the harsh and fickle reality that she finds stirs the realisation that home is where the heart is.  

Cast: 5 principal characters and ensemble

CHARACTER LIST:

Destiny – dreams of bigger things, disenchanted by the lack of ambition a small country town has to offer her, sets off to the big city to follow her dreams.

Banjo – local boy and lifetime friend of Destiny, loving and supportive of the girl her loves, stifles his ambition for family responsibilities.

Mumma D – nurse to Destiny from young age, raised her to believe in herself and her grand dreams and encourages her to follow her heart.

Agent Supernova – big time promoter of stars promising fame and fortune, not forgetting his sizeable cut, in the city. Keen to capitalize on those green eyed out-of-towners.

Big Phil – affable character who offers kindness and life’s wisdom to those in doubt.
